 Enzymes & Probiotics

By Dr. Farzad Farahmand:

Our body is in constant need of nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and Amino Acids.  Nutrients are divided into two categories. Essential and Non-essential.  Essential nutrients, as opposed to the non-essential, are not made naturally by the body.  They need to be provided from the diet or be supplemented. The food that we eat needs to go through a digestive process and be broken down into tiny particles, in order to be converted into energy in the body.  Essential nutrients then need to properly be extracted and absorbed, before they enter the blood stream to travel to the tissues that need nourishment.

Enzymes function in accelerating or speeding up Biochemical reactions and fall into two main categories. Metabolic and Digestive. Metabolic Enzymes are produced by the body, secreted mainly by the pancreas and are involved in such activities as reproduction and replenishment of cells and tissues, Brain activity, nerve transmission, oxygen exchange, wound healing, liver function and more.

Digestive enzymes accelerate or speed up Biochemical reactions that are involved in the breakdownof food. The digestion of food takes place in several stages.  It starts in the mouth, moving to the stomach and finally into the small intestine. When food enters the upper portion of the small intestine, the pancreas provides pancreatic enzymes to further break down the food. At each step, specific enzymes break down different types of food. Final breakdown of the remaining small molecules of food occurs in the lower small intestine.

Foods contain protein, fat, carbohydrate and fiber. Enzymes break down each of these into progressively smaller components until they reach their basic building block form.  The body uses these building blocks to rebuild and heal itself, supply energy and remove toxins.

  • Lipase breaks down fat into Fatty Acids

  • Protease breaks down Proteins into Amino Acids

  • Amylase breaks down Carbohydrates into Glucose molecules

  • Cellulase breaks down vegetables into fibers, allowing vitamins and minerals within the fibers to be absorbed and enter the blood stream.

  • Lactase breaks down milk sugar Lactose into Glucose.

Regardless of how healthy your diet is, without proper absorption you may not get the maximum nutritional benefit, and your body may even become deficient in certain essential nutrients.

Having a healthy digestion is a key factor in having a healthy mind and body. The cells, tissues and organs in our body need to be nourished constantly in order to function and remain healthy. Essential nutrients such as Vitamins, Minerals and Amino Acids need to be properly absorbed by the body from the diet. An insufficient absorption of nutrients during the digestive process can cause a variety of physical, as well as mental problems. Physical complications may include Arthritis, body aches and pains, circulatory problems, low energy and more. Mental disturbances such as depression, anxiety and mood swings may occur as a result of improper absorption of Amino Acids, affecting the level of the Neurotransmitters in the Brain. Brain function can also be affected by the deficiencies of certain vitamins and minerals.  These are signs that you may not be getting the benefits of digestive enzymes.  The addition of digestive enzymes, either through enzyme rich foods or supplements has proven to be very effective.

One of the leading factors for the need to supplement Enzymes is aging.  As we age the body may no longer produce adequate amount of Enzymes needed to digest food.  Other factors include the over cooking and processing of food which destroys enzymes, and the fact that most foods in the standard American diet are acid forming.  Acidic environment in the body results in a decrease in Enzyme production as well as buildup of Lactic Acid in muscles and joints.  Excess acid may also be precipitated in the form of crystals, salts, Gall and kidney stones.  A sixteen ounce bottle of soda has a pH of around 2 which is highly acidic.  In order to bring the pH back up to normal, we would have to dilute the soda with about ten gallons of water.

Enzyme deficiency in the body may cause:

  • Acid reflux

  • Heart burn

  • Chronic constipation/Diarrhea

  • Stomach pain and cramps

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

  • Crohn’s disease

  • Arthritis from excess Calcium deposit in the joints

  • General aches and pains

  • Osteoporosis

  • Skin disorders

  • Obesity

  • Fatty Liver & Gallbladder

  • Leaky Gut

  • Cardiovascular problems, including high Cholesterol

  • Low Energy

  • Depression due to Vitamin & Amino Acid deficiency

  • Anxiety

  • Mood Swings

Some digestive disorders may happen when the balance of Probiotics or friendly bacteria in the intestines becomes disturbed.  This can happen after an infection or after taking antibiotics. Intestinal problems can also arise when the lining of the intestines is damaged.  “Probiotics can improve intestinal function and maintain the integrity of the lining of the intestines.  These friendly organisms may also help fight bacteria that cause antibiotic associated diarrhea and infectious diarrhea, as well as helping the immune system.

The Vegetarian Enzyme Complex offered by Homeopathic Wonders contains multiple Enzymes to assist in the breakdown of food and the proper absorption of nutrients.  The Enzymes are extracted exclusively from vegetarian sources, and provide a broad range of activity to help support digestion and nutrient absorption, by helping the body process fats, carbohydrates, proteins and other difficult to digest foods.

In addition to Enzymes, the product also contain super stable Lactospore, which supplies 200 million Probiotic cells daily, to help promote the health of intestinal flora.
